Jenn is a lucky girl. I found her a husband and made her a bag. Heehee. Something a little different, this is a McCall's pattern, using fabric found at a local store. It's a light green with a white vine-y design.
You can sort of see it better in this picture of the innards. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the inside fabric. If we had normal sized windows here, I'd make curtains from it.
My picture skills suck today. Anyway, you can see the tortoise rings I used for the handles, but you can't see the magnetic snap. Oh yes, my friends. JoAnn's sells the elusive snaps. Not with sewing notions, mind you, but waaaaay in the back, with their purse making stuff. Huh? Anyway, so I don't slander the good name of JoAnn's, yes, they do sell snaps. And rings. And handles. Fascinating, I'm sure.

love
Oh, Amy. You taunt me with your exquisitely coordinated fabric lines. A blatant rip of the bag shown on the cover of the pattern (shown here), I fell in love with the pinks and greens while working on my previous sling.
Insides, using Amy's "happy dot" fabric. It's a dark picture, but the pink and yellow matches the outer fabric perfectly. It was perfect as a carry-on, fitting my book, wallet, camera, crosswords, etc. It's lined in fleece, so it feels like I'm carrying a big pillow. Love.

Fixed!
Sorry about the picture mix-up. I was playing around in Flickr and they deleted from here. Now they're all hosted by Blogger, so that shouldn't happen again.
No new project pics this time, but I do have a new bag and some cute headbands I'll have to post. The new bag is another birdie sling, just with different fabrics. I used it as my carry on for my trip this past weekend, and it worked very well! It fit a ton of stuff, and I got an offer to sell my bags from a woman next to me who owns a shop in Tempe! Craziness, I tell ya.
Meanwhile, here is a cool picture of me and my friends on the beach in Oregon. Goonies never say die!

birdie sling

I love this bag. LOVE THIS BAG. It's a Birdie Sling bag, pattern and fabric from Amy Butler. If you can't tell from the picture, this bag is freaking ginormous. I made this one for me to use as a carry-on when I go to Portland in a couple weeks. I figure a book, wallet, camera, etc. will fit nicely. The only thing I don't like is the handle fabric. It's too loud for my tastes, but the colors match the body fabric perfectly.
Here are the innards. It has 2 pockets, one small and one pretty large. The pattern called for the large pocket to be split into 2 smaller ones, but I like the big pocket. I also like this fabric.
The bag itself is really sturdy. All fabrics are home-decor weight, and the insides are stabilized using fleece interfacing.
Molly approves. :)

Stupid ugly purse
Currently, I'm working on 2 new bags, both using Amy Butler fabric and patterns. Oh, Amy my love. I alone could keep you in business. One bag was almost complete on Sunday! Yes, everything was going great, the pattern was crazy-easy to follow, and I was just top-stitching the body to give it a finished look. Then my confidence got the best of me, and I did some weird foldy thing, and all hell broke loose. It can be fixed (thankfully, since Ms. Butler's fabrics are quite spendy), but it's gonna take some time, patience, and an excellent seam ripper. But my Birdie Sling is coming along swimmingly. I made a gusset. A gusset! And I didn't fuck it up!
Anyway, in my stead, I give you the STUPID UGLY PURSE. My first ever completed bag. It's so bad. SO BAD. Stitching is totally off, interfacing? What's that?, the button loop is too big for the button, etc. It's a red sling bag with a cherry print lining. Cute in theory, awful in execution.
At least the button is cute.

Bag #2
Another day, another bag. I like this one a lot better, except I didn't add a pocket like I planned, and my magnetic snaps aren't in yet. Did you know you can't buy magnetic snaps at Joann's? WTF? And all my cool favorite fabric store are quilting-centric, so they don't have them either. Lame. Anyway, I digress.
New bag. I guess it's a hobo bag? All the hobos I know carry those bandana-on-a-stick things. Oh, the hobos I know...
Closeup of the inside. I like the dots, and the way they match the flowers on the outside. Both fabrics from Alexander Henry.
****Do you like this bag? Would you like to own this bag? YOU CAN! I'm planning to put some up on Etsy in the near future, but I messed up a little with this one. The handle is crooked on the one side, so it's not up to my own specifications. Anyway, if you want it, make me an offer! craftyb1tch@gmail.com I'll gladly send you a picture of the handle. I'd put one here, but I'm on my way out.

My first (well, kinda) bag
Not *technically* the first bag I've made, but the first one I'm not embarassed to take out in public.
Here is the outside.
And here is the inside.
I have an obsession with Alexander Henry fabrics, which they (oddly enough) sell at Joann's. The skull fabric is an AH creation, and a remnant bin score. The outer dots fabric came from Zoe's Trunk in Chandler, AZ.
I tried to use a "For Dummies" pattern, but apparently I'm even stoopider than a dummy (moron? imbecile?). One would assume that the purchasers of "For Dummies" patterns are sewing newbies, and therefore pattern newbies, so they would be easier to follow. One would be WRONG. So the basic shape of the bag came from the pattern, while the construction came from the AWESOME "Jordy Bag" tutorial on the craftster.org forums.
